Neurology
HAKKINDA

Neurology is formed by combining the words ‘neuron’ meaning nerve and ‘logia’ meaning work. The nervous system can be described as the wires that transmit signals from the brain to the organs and from the organs to the brain and the networks they form.

Neurology was previously called asabiye because its Arabic equivalent is ‘asab’. While a doctor who specializes in neurology is called a neurologist or neurologist, specialist doctors who perform surgical procedures in this field are called Brain and Nerve Surgery Specialists.

Symptoms of neurological diseases
Many people have hesitations about which department they should go to regarding their complaints. They start researching their discomfort while consulting their family physicians. Since neurology and neurological diseases are not widely known by people, sometimes patients may apply to a neurologist too late. It may be necessary to consult a neurologist for these diseases:
Headache, Dizziness, Numbness-weakness in the hands-arms and legs-feet, Fainting, Visual disturbances, Involuntary movements, spasms, Dizziness attacks, Gait disorders, Tremors in the hands, Drooping eyelids, Facial numbness and deformity, Forgetfulness, Behavioral changes, Sleep disorders, Paralysis, Low back and neck pain

Neurological examination
If a neurological disease or disorder is suspected, a detailed history of the patient is taken first and a physical examination is performed. If necessary, imaging tests such as Computerized tomography (CT), Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (EMG), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or Positron emission tomography (PET) can also be used.
